FAQ
Does BALCO Alarm service residental alarms only?
Absolutely not! Quite the opposite as a matter of fact, we originally began and continue to this day operate primarily as a commercial alarm installation company, providing systems for retail stores. BALCO has also had a long history of providing electronic security systems for many federal agencies. BALCO Alarm (originally Bonded Alarm) was one of the few alarm companies meeting US Department of Defense requirements and for many years provided virtually all systems for the US Navy facilities at the Brooklyn Navy Yard up to the time these sites were either closed or relocated out of the area.
How do some alarm companies manage to stay in business when they are offering to install "FREE" systems?
There are several variations of the old saying "there is no free lunch" and this is so true. Although it is true that the initial cost of installing a security system has dropped considerably in the last several years, any company that installs a system "for free" is forced to either offer an inferior product or usually makes up the initial loss by way of either increased Central Station Monitoring, Service charges or by offering a reduced warranty period after the initial installation. Some companies have gone so far as to actually sign up customers "for free" and when the installer arrives the customer is informed that the RJ31X telephone jack is not included and is charged as much as $350.00 for this. SOME FREE INSTALLATION. An example of this is on your grocery shelf. Have you noticed that some manufacturers have reduced the amount of product packaged and the price remains the same or may have even increased the price slightly. BALCO Alarm installs all systems at an extremely fair price, in some cases, to be competitive, we will install a system for free, but only in the case of a "account reprogram" where a system is already installed and we are simply replacing your existing control panel and keypad with ours and no additional wiring is required. Remember, you get what you pay for.
What geographical areas does BALCO Alarm service?
BALCO serves the New York City metropolitan area including Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut and south eastern Massachusetts including Martha's Vineyard Island. (northern Conn. & Mass service provided in affiliation with Electronic Security Systems of Massachusetts) BALCO has also provided systems for clients in several other states under special circumstances. BALCO has also been involved in special projects out of the US in the Caribbean.
Will BALCO supply a referral list for me before I decide to use you for my home/commercial alarm?
We will supply you with at least three people that we service in your immediate area. I have also published a partial list of our commercial, institutional and government agency clients available from our web site home page. Some examples of these are US Postal Service, NYC Health & Hospital Corp, State University of New York/Downstate Medical Center at Brooklyn and US Department of the Treasury/Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms.
How do I know that BALCO Alarm will stand behind the system and give me good service after the installation?
Because BALCO is a UL Listed Alarm service company, we are required to maintain certain minimum standards for service and maintenance of our UL Listed systems. These standards insure that our high security clients such as Jewelers, Furriers, Financial Institutions as well as other high risk premises are protected. The UL standards are demanded by the insurance carriers that insure these high risk locations and if not complied with fully as per Underwriters Laboratories Standards, a loss of insurance coverage is possible. It is for this reason that even our smallest clients benefit form this. Since we need to maintain an alarm company standing by to support the high security client, we are also there to help even our smallest residential apartment installation.
